Welcome to Kauai- Grand Hyatt Kauai Resort & Spa

Monday, May 23, 2016

We arrived late to the Grand Hyatt Resort Kauai due to a 13+ hour flight delay. We anticipated having a nice relaxing afternoon by the pool. Instead, we spent it restaurant hopping in the Phoenix airport, catching up on our shows, and hoping that we would make it to the Garden Isle to celebrate our 5th wedding anniversary.

Once we arrived at 1:30am we picked up our Jeep and headed to the resort unaware of the beauty that surrounded us because of the night sky. We were greeted with warm smiles, fresh leis, and were escorted to our room where we immediately drifted off to sleep.

The next morning I hopped out of bed and pulled back the curtains and was greeted by this amazing view of the hotel's grounds, ocean, and the sound of the waves crashing in the distance. Not a bad way to start your day.

Deciding to stay put for the day and enjoy the beautiful grounds was just want we needed to recover from a hectic travel day. We roamed the resort grounds where the flora and fauna were abundant.

The salt water lagoon was our pool of choice. It was close to the beach and it was big enough to find areas for privacy.

Beach, Pool, Bar, Sleep, and repeat was the agenda for the day.

I loved watching all of the surfers at the hotel's beach. The current was very strong so would not recommend it for children as the red flag was up every day. Poipu Beach is much calmer down the road and is better suited for swimming.

Hibiscus and Bougainvilleas are my favorite flowers and they were plentiful.

I was a bit nervous when I saw the weather was only going to be in the mid 70's to low 80's and was not sure if it was going to be too cold to swim. In Arizona, I will only get in the pool if it is in the mid 90's. Well, I must say I forgot what humidity feels like and it sure is a different kind of heat.

Our favorite time is around four when everyone is starting to pack up and head in. It feels like you have the entire place to yourself.

It's also the time when your Mai Tais' kick in and you come up with stupid ideas. (aka.the Dirty Dancing lift. If you weren't sure what the flailing seal picture was supposed to be below.)

The Grand Hyatt was a great base for our stay in Kauai. The rooms were nothing to write home about but the beautiful grounds, location in Poipu, nightly Hawaiian shows, food at Tidepools, and the service more than made up for it. I would highly recommend a stay.

    1. This was hands down my favorite Hawaiian island, April. So I don't think you would be disappointed. It's so easy to hop around from island with pretty inexpensive inter-island flights as well. If you have time to visit more than one.

    1. Oh Megan, it was one of the worst delays I've had in a long while but we made it through. I know, with the humidity it felt 20 degrees warmer and of course causes major hair issues. Thank you!
