Tourists in Santa Barbara

Friday, November 27, 2015

We left Laguna Beach and headed north to Santa Barbara. We dropped our bags at the hotel and hit the ground running trying to maximize our limited time here.

A short walk brought us to the County Courthouse which is one of the major attractions in this coastal city. A bit surprising, but once you step inside you know exactly what all the fuss is about. The tile work and hand painted ceilings are spectacular. Make your way up to the top of the clock tower and you have the best views of Santa Barbara.

We had a quick bite to eat at a small cafe with views of the courthouse's beautiful gardens. I was so glad Jer talked me into wearing more comfortable shoes since we had quite a hike to Santa Barbara's Old Mission. We took the self-guided tour ($8 per person) which was very informative (my grandmother would be proud). We had the place to ourselves; one of the perks of visiting on a weekday.

Strolling back to State Street where we stopped for some delicious gelato and peaked in the many shops that lined the pretty street

Traveling north at the end of State Street is Stearns Wharf where we took in the mountain and ocean views.

Arroyo Burro Beach is a great spot to watch the sunset. You can walk for miles taking in the salty ocean air.

Ah, Santa Barbara. We parted ways too soon. Your Spanish-Mediterranean architecture and tiles had me swooning at every turn. Your food and wine has expanded my waist line but I can't complain because I enjoyed every last bite and sip. Your sunsets have left me with pleasant dreams. Your scenery was a feast for the eyes. It was a short and oh so sweet love affair.  Until we meet again...
