All By Myself...On Our Anniversary!!

Friday, May 15, 2015

Yesterday was our fourth wedding anniversary and I celebrated sans husband who was across the country on business.

I recently had a conversation with some friends about trying on and wearing our wedding dresses. I insisted that I knew mine would not fit and was not about to even attempt trying.

Well...

this is what happens when you are all alone on your wedding anniversary.  You do stupid shit. It, in fact, did not fit. I could not even zip it up.

The red wine stain is still on the front of my dress. Some may say I am lazy for not getting it cleaned and I may agree with them a little. But there is a part of me that just did not want to wash off anything from that special night.

I felt like if I got it cleaned that I would look at the dress as a bright new shiny object.

That I would forget about the dirty bottom of the dress because I decided to ditch the heels and go barefoot in the sand (because really who wears heels in the sand) and that high tide came rushing in during our pictures.

That I would forget about dancing full on with a glass of red wine in my hand without a care in the world.

That I would forget the smell of the ocean while saying our vows.

The dress was worn and it was worn well. Who would want to wash that away?

I'm so glad I did not.

Happy Anniversary, baby!

  1. Happy belated anniversary! And I completely understand what you mean by not wanting to wash a way anything from that night, I once held on to a dollar bill for a year because it had special memories.

I ended up using it accidentally, and I was so absurdly sad over that dollar bill for a few days, but then I realized I still had the memories and that was good enough.

  2. Thank you Angelina! I know what you mean. I am usually not the type to hold on to much but I do have a few things I will never part with.
