Wright On

Husbands and significant others, listen up. When your other half asks what you want to do for the day and you say, "Whatever". Know, that this gives your other half free rein to plan whatever the fuck she/he wants.

And so starts our Saturday. I've been wanting to check out Frank Lloyd Wright's "winter camp" since we moved here over a year ago and just never got around to it. Perfect timing this past weekend when we did not have any plans and the other half was down for "whatever".

We arrived and made our way to the book store where I thought we bought passes so we could roam freely around the grounds. Turns out, you must do a guided tour that lasts about 1 hr 1/2. Tickets were $36.00 per person. I glanced at my other half and received the head tilt and the death stares. I shrugged my shoulders, gave him a little smirk, and proceeded to pay. We ran to catch up with our tour since it had already started.

The walls are made from local rocks. Wright believed in using local materials instead of having them imported.

It was so hot that day. Sweat was dripping down everyone's backs. Trying to keep hydrated. Maybe not the best day to take the tour.

Can you believe that he only paid $3.50 per acre, for that view!!!??! I know, I sound like my grandmother. Remember when...

The Garden Room. I was crushing hard over those chairs and would have loved to reupholster them. Gah!!

Not sure what this room was. I must be honest, I am horrible with guided tours. I lose interest when I am spewed facts. I am a wanderer and a snoop so I like peeking into things that I maybe shouldn't. Creating my own stories in my head. (I am definitely the person who will check out what you have in your medicine cabinet. No shame in my game.) So we found ourselves falling behind peeking into rooms and crevices while the others continued ahead.

Nothing like laying on itchy, fur blankets in 100 degree weather.

We left a little before the tour ended because our stomachs were growling and I thought Jer was going to die of heat exhaustion.

If you are ever in the area I would recommend a visit. Frank Lloyd Wright was an architecture genius who designed over 1000 structures in his time. He was known to keep his structures in harmony with the environment which was evident in Taliesin West.
