Boot Scootin Bull Riding

Do you remember the feeling when summer break was over and you had to return to school? A part of you was excited to go back and see your friends and then the other part of you longed for more relaxing summer days when you didn't have to worry about setting your alarm.

That is exactly how I am feeling right now because it is almost time for this girl to return to work since moving here. I am looking forward to getting back to the grind but a part of me is going to miss the days where my biggest decision was if I should read my book poolside, in bed, or on the couch. So I am trying to soak it all in while I can.

We headed to Cave Creek this past weekend and were instantly transported back to the wild wild west. Well, not the real wild west since they have more rattlesnakes then actual real cowboys but a replica. Quirky souvenir shops, galleries, and restaurants line Frontier Town.

When my jam comes on and I just can't help myself...

We worked up an appetite and loaded up on burgers, fries, and shakes at Big Earls Greasy Eats which has an old 50's drive in vibe.

And I made this one pose with a pig.

We continued to explore tucking into as many shops and trying to distract myself from the urge to buy five pounds of chocolate fudge.

We found ourselves back in Cave Creek at night for dinner at Buffalo Chip Saloon. The smell of barbeque instantly hits your nose when you walk in and you know exactly what you are going to order without looking at the menu.

After dinner we headed out back of the restaurant where they were setting up for the live bull riding competition which is held two days a week. We moseyed our way up to the bar and were surprised to see that we had to compete for seats with a horse who was sneaking sips.

With all the bleacher seating taken we squeezed our way under the announcers box and ended up having a pretty great view. You could hear a lot of eek s, ooh s, ugh s coming mainly from me.

Such a unique experience and next time may have to sign the hubs up although he will have to wear a helmet, knee, and elbow pads. Urban cowboy for sure.
