Asian Mexican Fusion

Monday, June 29, 2015

I was finally able to ease my craving for a banana split at Proof at the Four Seasons Troon North, thanks to a friend's recommendation. It was our lucky day since they were offering buy one get one complimentary so we indulged. A little dessert before dinner never hurt nobody, am I right?

We ended up parking so far away (in the valet section without actually doing valet; don't ask) so we had a chance to walk off a few calories before dinner.

We had reservations for Sumomaya which is a Mexican-Asian fusion restaurant that night. They serve up tapas style small plates that are meant for sharing as well as larger entrees.

When we arrived the place was packed. With so many people and the music blaring it felt like we were in a night club. I was in people watching heaven and had to fight the urge not to get up and break out my amazing dance moves.

The Korean beef tacos set the tone of the bold flavors that would ensue.

Soft shelled crab roll with apple, mango habanero salsa, and yuzu aioli. This turned a sushi hating man into a believer.

Our server saw me struggling with the chopsticks and so graciously slid a fork my way.  Thank you, thank you.

For the main event; tamarind shrimp with bamboo shoots, baby bok choy, dried shiitake mushrooms, and garlic chips for him.

And pork belly ramen with roasted shiitake mushrooms, tatsoi, kamaboko scallions, and a soft poached egg for me.

The first two dishes were so good that we felt a little underwhelmed with the main dishes.

I really did want to order everything on the menu and sitting next to a group of people I could not help myself from staring at their selections which all looked so good.

We rushed home since we kept receiving weather alerts on our phones the entire dinner for dust storms that were coming our way.  Who knew?
