Down at The Bayou

Monday, December 22, 2014

I was craving some good ole' southern comfort food.

I was hearing good things about The Bayou in Bethlehem so told Jer and we made it a date.

When we arrived the place was packed. Our table was not ready so we squeezed into the bar to order our drinks (Hurricane for me and a Budlight for him). As soon as we got our drinks our table was ready, perfect timing.

This drink had a big kick with a splash of vodka, gin, Bacardi, Amaretto, pineapple, and dark rum float; I took two sips and it went straight to my head.

We ordered the Flash Fried Black Eyed Peas with fresh herbs, lemon zest, and cayenne.

I never had black eyed peas and these were salty with a nice crunchy bite to them.

I don't think I would order them again but would definitely try and recreate them at home for a nice little snack.

Where does one find black eyed peas in the supermarket?

The highlight of the whole meal, hands down, was their Mac and Cheese. O MY GAWD!! So f'n good.

If there is Mac and Cheese on any menu I will order it and this has got to be one of the best ones I've had in a long while.

It was so creamy with the cheddar, chunks of ham, and sweet peas doing fireworks in my mouth.

I may or may have not licked that dish clean.

I ordered the Braised Oxtails with mushroom ragout and fried green tomatoes (loved the movie ordered the dish).

Jer ordered the Blackened Catfish and he kept saying that his mouth was on fire which means it was seasoned perfectly and had just the right amount of spice for normal folks.

He is a wuss when it comes to heat and is trying to build up his tolerance; it's not going so well.

Overall we had a great dinner and would highly recommend a visit.

I was a major light weight and the Hurricanes were kicking in. Time to put this girl to bed.
